The basics
What is Robo Gallery?
Robo Gallery is a WordPress plugin for photo and video galleries. It gives you 12 layouts (grid, masonry, justified, mosaic, Polaroid, slider and more), a lightbox, hover effects, nested albums, video from YouTube, Vimeo and other platforms, and social sharing. It has been developed by Robosoft since 2014 and has been downloaded more than 2.1 million times.
Is Robo Gallery free?
Yes. The free version on WordPress.org includes 3 albums, 6 layouts, 11 themes, 8 hover effects, 50+ lightbox options and a basic YouTube gallery.
What does PRO add?
PRO unlocks unlimited and nested albums, all 12 layouts, 55 themes, 18 fully customizable hover effects, 160+ lightbox options and YouTube playlists, channels and Shorts. The pricing table lists everything side by side.
Licensing and payment
Is PRO a subscription?
No. PRO, EXT and EXT+ are one-time payments. Each includes updates and support for a period (6 months for PRO, 12 months for EXT and EXT+). After that your galleries keep working as they are; renewing is only needed if you want new updates and support.
What is the difference between PRO, EXT and EXT+?
The features are the same. The difference is the number of sites and the update period:
- PRO, $30: 1 site, 6 months of updates and support.
- EXT, $65: 3 sites, 12 months.
- EXT+, $95: unlimited sites, 12 months.
Can I use Robo Gallery on client sites?
Yes. Use one licence per site with PRO, EXT for up to three sites, or EXT+ for any number of sites, which is usually the best fit for agencies and freelancers.
How do I pay?
Payments are processed by PayPal. After the purchase your account is created automatically and the login details are sent to your email.
How do I install PRO?
Keep the free Robo Gallery plugin installed. PRO comes as a key plugin that unlocks the premium features: download it from your account, then in WordPress go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, upload the file and activate it. Your existing galleries stay as they are.
Compatibility
Which WordPress and PHP versions does it need?
Robo Gallery is tested with current WordPress releases (up to 7.1). We recommend WordPress 5.8 or newer and PHP 7.2 or newer. It works with the block editor and the classic editor.
How do I add a gallery to a page?
Use the Robo Gallery block in the block editor, the Robo Gallery widget in Elementor, the classic widget for sidebars, or the shortcode shown in the gallery list. Each gallery is stored as its own post type, so the same gallery can appear on several pages.
Does it work with my theme?
Robo Gallery is built on the standard WordPress APIs and works with most themes and page builders. If a layout looks wrong in your theme, contact support with a link to the page and we will help.
Does it work with caching plugins and CDNs?
It works with page cache plugins such as WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache, W3 Total Cache and WP Super Cache; clear the cache after editing a gallery. Robo Gallery also has its own gallery cache. There is no built-in CDN integration yet: site-wide CDN setups often work, but test your galleries after enabling one.
Galleries and features
Will updating to v5 break my old galleries?
No. Galleries created with version 3 keep working after the update with their old settings. You can create new v5 galleries next to them and convert an old gallery whenever you like with the Change Gallery Type option. Back up your site before converting many galleries at once.
How do albums work?
An album is a gallery that contains other galleries. You build the tree in the Album Hierarchy panel of any gallery by dragging galleries under each other. In v5 galleries, albums appear as folder tiles with covers, and visitors move through them with breadcrumbs and menus. Read more in our guide to nested albums.
Which video platforms are supported?
The YouTube gallery type shows channels, playlists or a list of videos. In any gallery you can also attach a video link to an image: classic galleries accept YouTube and Vimeo, and v5 galleries also Facebook, Twitch, SoundCloud and Wistia. See how to build a YouTube gallery.
Is there a limit on image size?
There is no limit on image size, and galleries display sharply on Retina and Ultra HD screens, with images up to 16K. For speed, upload images at 1200–2000 px on the long side; our speed guide explains why.
Will a big gallery slow my site down?
Not if it is set up well. Use lazy loading, Load More or pagination, the gallery cache and properly sized images. With those, galleries of hundreds of images stay fast.
Can visitors share images?
Yes. Share buttons for 18+ networks, including Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Reddit, WhatsApp and Telegram, can appear on hover, in Polaroid panels and in the lightbox.
Can I sell photos or protect them with a watermark?
Robo Gallery is built for showing photos and video. It does not include print sales, client proofing or watermarking. If you sell prints, see how other plugins compare on our comparison pages.
Support
How do I get help?
Ask on the WordPress.org support forum or open a ticket. Include a link to the page with the gallery, screenshots, the Robo Gallery, WordPress and theme versions, and any caching or optimisation plugins you use: it lets us find the problem much faster.
Where is the documentation?
Step-by-step guides for every setting are at docs.robogallery.co.
Can you help me recreate a demo?
Yes. Send us a link to the demo you like and we will tell you which settings produce it.
